APT's
expertise extends beyond Teflon® PTFE
to include a variety of advanced engineering plastics.
Engineering plastic materials machined & compression molded include:
Fluoropolymers
Teflon® PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene),
Modified PTFE, NXT, & PCTFE for excellent dielectric properties and chemical resistance, low friction, & broad operating temperature ranges.
PTFE Compounds - Filled PTFE
APT has our own family of APTLON™ PTFE compounds (filled PTFE) for superior properties & performance.
PTFE compounds- PTFE filled with glass fibers, stainless steel, bronze,
carbon, molybdenum disulfide, & other blended combinations are available. Fillers are compounded with the base PTFE resin for improved high-wear resistance, toughness, thermal stability
and other tailor-made properties.
Pigmented PTFE - PTFE fillers can be added in small amounts to create color (speckles) for easier part identification purposes. Colored PTFE parts are easier to distinguish particularly if you have similar sized parts with identical features. Colored parts can help reduce errors during production assembly and field servicing units containing a PTFE component.
Call us for more information about appropriate PTFE fillers for your application.
Polyamide-Imide (PAI) & PEEK (Polyetheretherketone)
Torlon® PAI - Excellent for high temperature applications offering a combination of dimensional stability and mechanical strength & stiffness. Maximum allowable service temperature = 250°C/482°F (in air). Excellent radiation resistance (gamma & x-rays). Note: When superior chemical resistance is required, PEEK is an alternate material. PEEK has excellent resistance to steam (sterilization) and a wide variety of chemicals but mechanical properties of PEEK decline rapdily after 150°C/302°F.
Polyetherimides (PEI) & Polyimides (PI)
ULTEM® PEI (Ultem 1000 and other grades) & Vespel® (PI) - Outstanding resistance
to heat and heat aging. High-impact strength and wear resistance, low
coefficient of thermal expansion, excellent electrical properties.
Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene
UHMW PE, like Tivar® 1000, for excellent abrasion and radiation
resistance, impact strength and chemical resistance, low coefficient
of friction, low cost.
Polyamides (PA)
Nylon for outstanding toughness and
wear resistance, low coefficient of friction, excellent electrical properties
and chemical resistance.
Acetal
Delrin®, Delrin® AF, Celcon® for exceptional
dimensional stability & resistance to creep, vibration fatigue,
low coefficient of friction, high resistance to abrasion and good chemical resistance.
Other engineering plastics that APT precision machines include:
Polyether-etherketone (PEEK), polysulfone, polyurethane, polyphenylene
sulfide, & acrylic.
